Independent Films Direct is your website.  If you are an independent filmmaker, or a fan of indie film, then IFD is your new home.  For the past 18 months, site architects have been working day for night, fueled by strong coffee and the spirit of John Cassavetes, to create a cyber workshop where indie filmmakers can network with each other, debate Van Sant expressionism versus Sayles realism, skim the latest news, recruit financing and talent for their next projects, and sell their films directly to an independent film fan who is beckoned by IFD’s content much like Woody Allen is bewitched by a Bergman retrospective.

The architects of Independent Films Direct are filmmakers and film fans just like you.  The site’s genesis was an outcry from indie filmmakers who desperately needed marketing support for their films.  In true DIY fashion, these filmmakers decided to solve their own problem and create a website to promote low-budget indie films – and Independent Films Direct was born.  After 18 months in development, the baby now belongs to all of us - every indie filmmaker and every indie film fan.  Let’s raise this child right.

Independent Films Direct has four, interdependent missions:

1. Provide critical editorial content about the indie film world at its website on a daily basis, with an emphasis on the micro-budget film scene.  IFD harnesses its media machine to transform low budget digital filmmakers into the new stars of this new era in movie making.  But IFD’s content will contain items of interest to a broad film-loving audience because creating large traffic numbers at the site is crucial for it to succeed at its primary mission: Independent Films Direct will be the internet marketing portal for the independent film community. 
2. Provide crucial marketing support for indie filmmakers who sell their movies directly to consumers on the internet
   
3. Provide a portal where film artisans (directors, actors, writers, make-up artists, camera operators, composers, equipment rental shops, etc.) can market themselves and their skills to a global audience of fellow indie filmmakers
4. Hook up indie filmmakers with investors/collaborators who want to invest financially in films

Several terrific websites now exist where a filmmaker can post his/her movies for sale, and these sites execute the fulfillment of that sale for a small commission; and some filmmakers sell their films directly from their own websites. These sites are the future of indie film distribution!  However, one stumbling block must be overcome in this formula and that is many of these sites are little more than video sales warehouses and don’t generate substantial visitor traffic.  You can’t sell your film on a site if no one knows it’s there!  And letting film fans know that your unique film is available for sale on the ‘net is the critical role that Independent Films Direct will play. Filmmakers can post Film Profiles on the IFD site promoting their movies.  IFD will be the marketing portal to promote independent films which are not being supported by an established theatrical/DVD distributor’s marketing dollars.  If you want to sell your film directly on the web – you’ll want the marketing support of Independent Films Direct!  

Several terrific websites now exist where filmmakers can network with other filmmakers. Independent Films Direct raises the bar for cyber networking, allowing filmmakers to meet and chat and collaborate with other filmmakers around the globe.  One of the elements that sets apart IFD from other filmmaker networking sites is IFD’s emphasis on large visitor traffic numbers, and IFD’s core goal of unprecedented visitor traffic numbers will prove a boon to any filmmaker who needs to find a camera operator or donated food for crew meals or an investor for her or his next project.  Film artisans can post an Artisan Profile on the IFD site advertising themselves and their services.  Because of the number of indie filmmakers who visit IFD on a regular basis, no film artisan will want to be without a profile in the IFD Artisan Directory.  By concentrating a wide range of services on a single site, as opposed to being one of the speciality sites that currently exist on the web supporting the indie film world, IFD wants to be the web’s indie film Super Site.
